Orion

sculpture with LEDs, 216 X 340 X 360 cm

white painted wood
330 X 520 X 550 mm
Orion is a constellation that most people recognize. This particular formation of the stars is only visible from earth. Each of its stars is located on an enormous distance from us, ranging from 243 to 1342 light years. This sculpture is a three-dimensional interpretation of the constellation. It visualizes what we might see if we were able to travel around it. The size of the stars (spheres) varies according to light intensity. The proportions of the sculpture are an interpretation of light year distance from earth and the optical distances seen from earth
Working on a lamp now. will post soon!

City Gyroscope

I made a proposal for a tempporary sculpture that is supposed to be situated in the main harbour of a major European city. It is a gyroscope, with a strong spotlight, which is randomly throwing a beam of light over the city. The movement is driven by the wind, giving a connection between the sea and the city, acting like a light tower

Colour mixing walls

This is a sketch for a transformable space that mixes colours when you walk through the space, looking through the screens. Subtractive colour mixing occurs through using, like in this case, cyan-magenta-yellow.
I will post later, when we've found the perfect glass. Apparently, one has to use really thin sheets, otherwise the refraction is to dense.

Jøssingfjord museum competition

Proposal for museum of cultural heritage in Jøssingfjord, Norway 2011. The site is located in a valley of nearly vertical mountains and the aim of the design was to emphasize this unique landscape. Large windows are directed towards selected views, creating a framed image of the immense rocks which are present in all parts of the building. The plan drawing is a rigid grid, from which the windows are extruded and twisted, resulting in a contrast between straight and organic shapes.

Art museum

Proposal (2011)for museum extension on the peninsula in lake Kuorevesi, Mänttää, Finland
Net floor area: 3000 m², Gross floor area 4700 m².
Extension to the existing museum building which will contain the art collection of the Serlachius family, temporary exhibiton spaces, a café, library, archives, offices, storage rooms, and an art conservatory space. All exhibiton spaces have large roof windows only letting in light from the north. A connection to the old building also serves as main entrance and leads directly into the
assembly hall, the building’s heart. From there, the visitor walks on a slight slope, following the
landscape, to reach all services of the new building.
The goal is to create a visual connection between the park and all spaces within the building
with the exception of the exhibitions that are solid rectangular blocks, contrasting to the organic
structure in which they stand as islands
